What it is
ISO/TS 34700:2016 helps organisations in the food supply chain build an animal-welfare management plan consistent with the WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code, translating the five internationally recognised animal-welfare principles into practical, auditable management requirements covering housing, feeding, handling, transport and humane treatment.
Who needs it
Livestock producers, feed operators, processors, transporters and retailers that need to demonstrate responsible animal welfare to customers, regulators and consumers.
Benefits of certification
- Demonstrates conformity with internationally recognised WOAH animal-welfare principles
- Strengthens access to welfare-conscious markets, buyers and retailers
- Reduces welfare-related risk and reputational exposure across the supply chain
- Complements ISO 22000 / FSSC 22000 food-safety and GLOBALG.A.P. certification
Audit process
CAS reviews your animal-welfare management plan and supporting procedures, then conducts an on-site audit against ISO/TS 34700:2016. On successful assessment, CAS issues the certificate under its own authority for a 12-month cycle with annual surveillance.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions
Who issues this certificate?
CAS issues it directly, under its own authority, as a By-CAS service. Because ISO/TS 34700 is a Technical Specification that sits outside CAS's current EGAC accreditation scope, the certificate carries the CAS mark and does not bear the EGAC or IAF marks.
Is ISO/TS 34700 certifiable?
Yes. It is a Technical Specification with auditable requirements for an animal-welfare management plan; conformity can be independently assessed and attested by CAS.
How does it relate to my food-safety certification?
Animal welfare is increasingly required alongside food safety. ISO/TS 34700 integrates cleanly with ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 and GLOBALG.A.P., and can be audited in a combined programme to reduce audit days.
