Mark & recognition
Carries the EGAC accreditation mark and is internationally recognised through the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA).
What it is
ISO 14001:2026 is the fourth edition of the international Environmental Management System standard, published 15 April 2026 by ISO/TC 207 SC 1. It cancels and replaces ISO 14001:2015 and its Amendment 1:2024 (climate change). The new edition incorporates the latest ISO Harmonized Structure requirements and provides further clarification on key topics including environmental aspects, compliance obligations, life cycle perspective, and continual improvement. Note: CAS continues to issue EGAC-accredited certificates against ISO 14001:2015 until EGAC re-issues Schedule 012418B for the 2026 edition; the IAF transition deadline is May 2029.
Who needs it
All organisations — regardless of size, type, or sector — that wish to enhance environmental performance, meet compliance obligations, and demonstrate commitment to environmental responsibility. Particularly relevant for manufacturing, construction, mining, chemicals, transport, energy, and any supply chain requiring environmental credentials.

- CAS will be among the first CBs in North Africa & Middle East offering ISO 14001:2026 certification
Audit process
EMS audit time is determined per IAF MD 5:2023 Table EMS1 based on effective personnel and environmental complexity category (High / Medium / Low / Limited). Transition timelines from ISO 14001:2015 will be confirmed by EGAC and IAF following the new edition publication.
Transition notes
ISO 14001:2015 certificates issued before the transition deadline remain valid until their expiry date. CAS will support all certified clients through the transition to ISO 14001:2026 when the transition period is formally announced by EGAC and IAF.
Environmental complexity
Environmental complexity is assessed per IAF MD 5:2023 Table EMS2 — from High (mining, chemicals, oil refining) to Limited (offices, telecoms, business services).
Frequently asked questions
Common questions
What is new in ISO 14001:2026?
ISO 14001:2026 is the Fourth Edition (published April 2026). It cancels and replaces ISO 14001:2015 and its Amendment 1:2024. Main changes: (1) Full incorporation of the latest ISO Harmonized Structure (HLS) requirements applicable to all management system standards. (2) Climate change is now fully embedded in §4.1 and §4.2 (previously only in the 2024 Amendment). (3) Clarification of requirements on key topics including environmental aspects (§6.1.2), compliance obligations (§6.1.3), and operational planning (§8.1). (4) New terminology clarifications in Annex A.
Do existing ISO 14001:2015 certificates need to be reissued immediately?
No. ISO 14001:2015 certificates issued before the transition deadline remain valid until their expiry date. EGAC and IAF will announce the formal transition timeline. CAS will notify all certified clients of their transition schedule and will support them through the transition audit process.
What is environmental complexity and how does it affect audit time?
IAF MD 5:2023 classifies organisations into High, Medium, Low, or Limited environmental complexity based on the nature and gravity of their environmental aspects. This directly affects audit time and cost. High complexity (e.g. mining, chemicals) requires more audit days than Limited complexity (e.g. offices, business services).
Can ISO 14001:2026 be certified together with ISO 9001?
Yes. CAS conducts integrated audits per IAF MD 11:2023, which can reduce total audit time by up to 20%. ISO 14001:2026 uses the same ISO Harmonized Structure as ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, making integration straightforward.
Does ISO 14001:2026 require specific environmental performance targets?
No. The standard requires the organisation to set environmental objectives appropriate to its context, demonstrate continual improvement, and meet its compliance obligations — but it does not prescribe specific performance levels or numerical targets.
