Mark & recognition

Carries the EGAC accreditation mark and is internationally recognised through the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA).

What it is

ISO 22000:2018 combines HACCP principles with prerequisite programmes (PRPs) and a management system framework to provide comprehensive food safety management across the entire food chain. It aligns with ISO's High Level Structure for easy integration with other management systems.

Who needs it

Any organisation in the food chain — primary producers (farming, fishing), processors, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, catering services, transport providers, packaging manufacturers, and food service equipment suppliers.

Benefits of certification

  • Recognised by major food retailers and buyers globally
  • Covers entire food chain — farm to fork (Categories A–K)
  • Integrates HACCP with management system discipline
  • Prerequisite for many export markets and supermarket approvals
  • Demonstrates commitment to food safety to regulators and consumers
  • Foundation for FSSC 22000 (GFSI-recognised) where required

Audit process

Audit duration per ISO 22003-1:2022 Annex B formula: Ds = TD + TH × (n−1) + T_FTE, where TD is the category base, TH is per additional HACCP study, and T_FTE is based on FTE employee band.

Food-chain categories

A–B: Farming · C: Manufacturing · D: Wholesale/Storage · E: Retail/Catering · F: Transport · G: Biochemical · H: Packaging · I: Pest control · J: Cleaning · K: Testing labs

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What is the difference between ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000?

ISO 22000 is the international standard. FSSC 22000 is a GFSI-recognised scheme that adds additional requirements on top of ISO 22000. CAS offers both — and ISO 22000 certification is excellent preparation for FSSC 22000.

What food chain categories does CAS cover?

CAS is accredited by EGAC for all food chain categories A through K as defined in ISO 22003-1:2022 Annex A — covering the complete food chain.

How many HACCP studies affect audit time?

Per ISO 22003-1:2022 §B.3.2, the first HACCP study is included in the base duration (TD). Each additional study adds TH days (0.25–0.50 depending on category).
